ALBAWABA- Ministers from Arab, Islamic, and European countries have gathered in Riyadh today to discuss the ongoing developments in the Gaza conflict and the continued Israeli aggression on the besieged strip.
Chaired by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide, the meeting aims to address the latest updates on the war in Gaza, the humanitarian situation on the ground, and the Palestinian issue, including the two-state solution and recognition of the Palestinian state.
During his address, Prince Faisal reiterated the sincere desire to implement the two-state solution, emphasizing that the Palestinian people's right to establish their state is non-negotiable and must be fulfilled.
He also criticized Israel for its role in the conflict, stating that it remains the only state outside the international consensus on the necessity of stopping the war in Gaza.
He urged European partners to persuade Israel to pursue peace and warned of the consequences of continued military action, including the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stressed the need for progress towards establishing a Palestinian state with renewed authority, acknowledging the critical phase and deep crises facing the Middle East.
He emphasized the importance of moving towards a sustainable solution for Israel and the Palestinians, rather than returning to the situation before October 7.
Josep Borrell, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, stated ahead of the meeting that several EU member states are expected to recognize the Palestinian state by the end of May.
The meeting marks a significant international effort to address the escalating conflict in Gaza and seek solutions to the long-standing Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
