Launched barely eight months ago, Araby.com, the world’s first search engine that offers advanced Arabic-language capabilities to users worldwide, has walked away with two prestigious awards; ‘The Best Arabic Website’ and the silver award in the ‘Directories and Info Services’ category at the Pan Arab Web Award Ceremony held at the Burj Al Arab Hotel, Dubai, on April 19th 2007.

The Pan Arab Awards are held annually in a bid to recognize and felicitate creative web and business developers in the Pan Arab region. The Awards aim to promote the spirit of innovation and intellectual and production opportunities among entrepreneurs in the IT industry.

“We are honoured to have been chosen the recipients of the ‘Best Arabic Website’ Award and the Silver Award for the ‘Directories and Info Services’ category within our first year of operations,” said Samih Toukan, Maktoob Group CEO. “In line with the vision of Maktoob Group, our focus has always been on catering to the needs of the Arabic community worldwide, and continuously endeavoring to provide innovative services that benefit Arabic-speaking people everywhere.”

“While our aim in launching new utilities is not to win accolades, every prestigious award that we receive proves to be the icing on the cake,” added Maktoob Group CEO Samih Toukan.

Launched in September 2006 by the Maktoob Group, Araby.com, has, in a very short span of time, grown to be indispensable to the Arab community across the world, with more than 8 million search queries in the last couple of months.

The Pan Arab Web Awards seek to raise the standards of web design and websites, advocate growth and development of local talent and encourage intellectual property awareness.

The competition evaluates websites all over the Arab world and honors individuals or teams that have designed and developed the best among them. Organizations and individual designers from all Arab Countries are eligible to participate in the Awards.
