Asia’s largest electronics trade fair expands with new in-vehicle electronics and GPS zone

Hong Kong's total exports to the UAE grew by 11.3 per cent to USD 602 million during Q1 2008

The 28th edition of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s (HKTDC) Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) will bring together more than 2,500 electronics industry suppliers at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre, from October 13 -16, 2008.

Backed by its 28-year history of excellence, the fair is the biggest electronics event of its kind in Asia, and the second largest in the world. This year, a new section, the In-Vehicle Electronics & GPS Zone, will be introduced, providing additional opportunities for buyers to find new suppliers and products.

The creation of the In-Vehicle Electronics & GPS Zone is a response to the rapid growth of this exciting industry sector. The Hall of Fame is another zone at the show, which contains an impressive showcase presenting companies that place a strong emphasis on design and that create collections of branded electronic goods. Other popular zones within the Autumn Edition include Digital World, Home Tech, and the Technology Exchange Zone.

The strong potential of the industry will certainly attract a large number of buyers from all over the world. Last year, more than 58,000 professional buyers from 160 countries and regions visited the fair. Mohammad Arif Chara, General Manager of @ electric-avenue Trading Co. (L.L.C.) in the UAE, has been sourcing at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) for 17 years. "Hong Kong has a very special commercial flavour and what I like best about dealing with my suppliers at this fair is that they are honest and committed. For me, the quality to price ratio is the best in Hong Kong," said Chara.

The electronics industry makes a huge contribution to Hong Kong's economy. It is the largest merchandise export earner, accounting for around 50% of Hong Kong's total exports in 2007. For the first four months of 2008, Hong Kong's total exports of electronics products reached US58.4 billion (HK$455.8 billion), a 14% increase over the same period last year.

The UAE is Hong Kong's largest export market in the Middle East. Hong Kong's total exports to the UAE grew by 11.3% year-on-year to USD 602 million during the first quarter of 2008, while its imports from the UAE increased by 11.2% to USD 471 million.

ElectronicAsia, a trading platform for components, parts, assemblies, services and technology will run concurrently with the HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition). The two fairs will bring unique sourcing experiences for the international buyers. The new zone will be located in the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre, in China Resources Building, adjacent to HKCEC.
