A cousin of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has been killed in Syria, according to AFP.
The British-based monitoring group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said Mohamed al-Assad was assasinated in Latakia province, a key government stronghold.
"Mohamed al-Assad, the son of one of the Syrian president's cousins, was killed by five bullets to the head in the village of Qardaha," Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.
There was no immediate mention of the death in Syrian state media and there have been some reports of that Assad's relative was killed during fighting with Daesh militants.
