AFP reports that attacks across Iraq have left seven people dead and wounded fifty people.

The attacks came just before a period of annual Shia commemoration ceremonies – when Sunni militants step up attacks.

The deadliest attacks took place in Mosul, where a suicide bomber blew himself up in an army recruitment center. Two people were killed in the attack. In addition, a bombing at a restaurant killed two more and left a dozen wounded.

A female civil servant was shot dead in Baghdad. Bombings in the southern cities of Basra, Hilla, Samawa and Diwaniyah wounded more than 20 people.

Iraq is experiencing levels of violence not seen since 2006-2007, when over ten thousand people were killed in a Sunni-Shia civil war.
