The American University of Beirut Medical Center inaugurated on February 24 the Women’s Health Center, a state-of-the-art facility and one-stop shop dedicated to women’s healthcare.

Conceived as a full service practice, the center offers a comprehensive range of obstetrical and gynecological services to female patients at every stage of life. Among the variety of specialty medical services the center offers are: maternal fetal medicine, assisted reproductive techniques, uro-gynecology and gynecologic oncology. Prenatal surveillance services are also provided.

Moreover, the center is designed with women’s comfort and privacy in mind: Its spacious reception and waiting area, consultation, and treatment rooms conjure up a mood of coziness and relaxation.

To apply the adage that knowledge is power, center managers will also regularly play a comprehensive health education documentary on screens available in the waiting areas, thus empowering female patients with medical information to help them achieve optimal health.

“We look forward to this era of expansion,” said Dr. Adnan Mroueh who chairs the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. "We hope the center will be a model for Lebanon and the whole region."

Dr. Mroueh noted that the idea for the center started back in 2003 when a need for more spacious clinics was recognized.

"The center was established in the spirit of providing patient-centered care, which is the vision AUBMC is striving to achieve," said Dr. Ghassan Hamadeh, the associate dean for ambulatory programs.

Among those attending the inauguration of the center were: Dr. Mohamed Sayegh, the vice president for medical affairs and the Raja N. Khuri Dean Faculty of Medicine and Medical Center; AUBMC Director Munthir Kuzayli; Dr. Ghassan Hamadeh; Dr. Adnan Mroueh; Dr. Anwar Nassar; and a number of faculty and staff, as well Dr. Nadim Cortas, the former vice-president for medical affairs and the former dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
