Amongst a collection of coins, stamps, watches, cufflinks, and even bikes, one collection seems to stand out at the DSS 2009 The Collectors exhibition currently underway in Wafi. Akram Miknas, who has been an avid collector of antiquities for over 30 years, has brought his collection of music boxes to Dubai this DSS.
“I am extremely delighted to bring my collection to Dubai during DSS and I hope this display will be an encouragement for many amateur collectors. All my life I've been interested in people and have been fascinated by their achievements. As I became more inquisitive about human achievements, I fell in love with antiquities as a means of better understanding and appreciating what people are capable of,” said Akram Miknas.
“This collection is not only rare but gives an insight into the culture of the people of the times,” he added.
The collection is unique in many aspects and is the first-of-its-kind seen in the UAE. The Music Box has its origin in the 18th century and those with Akram are prized collector’s items. The music boxes form just a part of his collection that includes cameras, clocks, stereoscopes, stereo cameras, toys, and various optical instruments, amongst others.
The DSS 2009 Collectors exhibition will go on in Wafi till August 7th.
