Bahraini Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa returned to the Kingdom Sunday following a three-week visit to China and Thailand, during which he held trade and investment talks with leaders of both countries.

The Prime Minister was received at the airport by Bahrain’s King, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

In the course of his visit to China, which was described in Bahrain as "an historic" and was expected "to herald a new era" in relations with the Asian country, the Premier met with China's President Jiang Zemin, President of Chinese National People's Congress Li Peng and a number of high-level Chinese officials, Gulf News reported.

Sheikh Khlaifa, who has been on the helm of the government for the last 30 years, has visited the majority of Far Eastern countries in the last few years with the aim of boosting trade relations and advancing Bahrain, already the Gulf's financial center, as a regional investment one.
