Bahrain on Wednesday lifted a ban on Spanish virgin and extra virgin olive oil imports, reported the Gulf Daily News.

The Spanish products have been allowed back on the shelves of supermarkets, the health ministry announced on Wednesday.

The move follows an order issued earlier by Commerce and Industry Minister Ali Saleh Al Saleh banning the import of certain types of olive oil from Spain and ordering them off the market for fear they contained a substance that could cause cancer, said the paper.

The ban affected three types of olive oil made of pomace, or the pulpy residue of olives.

Health Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Primary Care and Public Health Abdulwahab Mohammed Abdulwahab said the ministry's water and food control section now allowed the sale of virgin olive oil meeting international safety standards – Albawaba.com
