In Bahrain, dozens of women rallied outside the justice ministry in Manama Saturday to demand the sacking of the public prosecutor and a number of judges, and the enactment of a personal status law.
The protest was organised by the “women’s petition committee,” a group of Bahraini activists who accuse judges of discriminating against women, and are lobbying for family and women cases to be handled by civil tribunals.
The protesters demanded the removal of public prosecutor Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Jaber Al Khalifa and some judges, charging that they obstructed complaints by women while pursuing cases against rights activists.
