The Syrian government dropped barrel bombs on the rebel-held sections of Homs killing thirteen people including two children, according to an AFP report.

According to AFP, barrel bombs are "crudely constructed devices made of barrels packed with explosives" which are indiscriminate, resulting in a high frequency of civilian deaths.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said barrel bombs have been regularly dropped in rebel-held cities, particularly in Homs and Idlib.
