Fashion divas from around the world including reigning miss India Parvathy Omanakuttan, miss Sri Lanka, and beauty queens from Sweden, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia, and China, will be among a host of beauties to walk the ramp at the ‘Colombo Vogue Life Styles Weekend’ on May 30th, 31st and June 1st to raise funds for ‘Green Cover’ a novel initiative launched by Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau to plant ten million trees by 2010. The event is scheduled to take place at Hotel Galadari in Colombo.
A multi faceted event, it will feature a fusion music concert titled Mantra on the 30th of May featuring flautist Bikram Singh, Pradeep Rathnayake, Harsha Makaland and Ravibandu Vidyapathi. The artists will also join hands to produce an album titled ‘Preserve Planet Earth’ the proceeds of which too will go towards the project ‘Green Cover’.
“Green Cover is a joint venture between SLTPB and the Rotary Club of Colombo Regency and Kandy, and we have initiated a campaign to plant 10 million trees over the next couple of years,” said SLTPB Managing Director, Dileep Mudadeniya.
Mr. Mudadeniya noted that Sri Lanka has produced a new road map for the growth of its tourism industry, “A road map that sees Sri Lankan tourism as carbon clean,” he stressed. “We have a program in place for reforestation that provides an ever increasing carbon sink. Our vast tea plantations store carbon. We are determined to bring together appropriate Carbon Offset Programs (COP) to bear on addressing climate change and in particular, to chart Sri Lankan tourism on its new, carbon clean path,” Mr. Mudadeniya observed.
‘Green Cover’ is inspired by ‘Tourism’s Earth Lung project that aims for a Carbon Clean Sri Lanka’.
