Dubai Summer Surprises has seen a large increase in sales of electronic items, according to leading electronics retailers, Gulf News reported Thursday.

The sector has benefited from the increased numbers of visitors, especially from the GCC region, the paper said, quoting Soni Tolani, executive director of Jacky's Electronics.

"The electronics industry has had its fair share of trials in the recent past, but the silver lining this year has come in the form of an upward trend in sales,” Tolani told the paper.

"The Summer Surprises is instrumental in driving traffic into the emirate at what used to be a dead time for retailers," D.J. Babani, general manager of Eros Electricals was quoted by the daily.

For G&M International, representatives of Bose and Thomson Multimedia, this summer also saw high sales, with an increase of 50 percent in sales of Thomson Multimedia, the paper said.
