ALBAWABA - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an unexpected stop in Baghdad on his Middle East tour, which was scheduled prior to Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah's declaration of war against the United States. Nasrallah's statement that "resistance forces will attack US bases in Iraq and Syria" after the Israeli army's actions in Palestine heightened tensions in the region.

During Blinken's visit to the Iraqi capital, he drew attention by posing for photos in body armor, a move widely perceived as a show of preparedness in the face of the escalating situation.

Blinken's stay in Baghdad was relatively brief, and his next destination is anticipated to be Ankara, Turkey, as he continues his regional tour.

In a solo press conference held at Baghdad International Airport after his meeting with Prime Minister Muhammed Shia al-Sudani, Blinken stated, "I had productive and amicable discussions with Iraq's Prime Minister."

Blinken underscored the ongoing cooperation between the United States and Iraq in security and political matters, emphasizing that attacks on American military personnel infringe on Iraq's sovereignty and are contrary to its interests.

Regarding threats from Iran-affiliated groups, Blinken made it clear that such threats are deemed "completely unacceptable." He also added, "Our preference is to avoid any conflict with Iran, but we will take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our troops and citizens.
