At least 21 people were killed and another ten wounded Saturday evening when an explosion went off in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz, AFP reported.

The Afghan interior ministry said a suicide bomber detonated his vest in the Khanabad district. All of the casualties were civilians, according to the statement, while local media called them anti-Taliban militiamen.

Conflicting reports from Abdul Wadood Wahidi, spokesman for the governor of Kunduz, said 22 militiamen were killed.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. The explosion follows deadly bombings in Kabul that killed 51 on Friday, the deadliest attack on the capital in years.
