About 400 migrants are feared to have drowned after a boat capzied off the coast of Libya, BBC reported Tuesday.
Survivors told Save the Children hundreds may be dead despite a rescue operation launched by Italy. The Italian coast guard Monday had saved 144 people from the Mediterranean Sea who had fled Libya trying to reach Europe.
With spring weather making it safer to travel in the waters, attempts to escape conflict-torn countries and reach the Italian coast have increased. The EU said 7,000 migrants had been rescued from the sea since Friday.
