The LA Times reports that the two apprehended shooting suspects in the deadly San Bernardino shooting Wednesday were Syed Rizwan Farook, a 28-year-old American citizen, and Tashfeen Malik, of unknown origin.
Farook reportedly traveled to Saudi Arabia six months ago and returned with a wife he had met online. He was employed as a health inspector at the San Bernardino County’s Public Health Department.
Farhan Khan, reportedly a brother-in-law of Farook, made a statement at the Islamic Center of Anaheim on Wednesday.
“I cannot express how sad I am,” said Khan. “I have no idea why he would do that…. I am in shock that something like this would happen. … My condolences to the people who lost their life.”
According to the Mediaite website, earlier reports named a third shooter of Qatari nationality, but these statements have been withdrawn.
On Wednesday morning, shooters attacked a holiday party for San Bernardino health workers, killing 14 people and wounding 17 others. Both Farook and Malik were killed after exchanging fire with police. Another suspect is in custody.
