british business group celebrates 20th anniversary and welcomes 1,000th member

New BBG membership deal ensures continued value
for business community

The British Business Group has marked its 20th Anniversary celebration by welcoming its 1,000th member.

Eleena Ahmed, a mortgage consultant with Haven Mortgage Solutions in Dubai, joined fellow members and VIP guest, Lord Digby Jones, the UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment, at a special anniversary lunch yesterday at the Monarch Hotel in Dubai.

Ahmed, a mother of two young children who originally hails from Kent, England, joined Lord Digby in cutting a cake to mark the occasion.

She said: “I feel very strongly that the business community in Dubai works together, crossing cultures and nationalities, but also that British businesses support each other.”

“I joined the BBG to build contacts, both professionally and socially, as well as to come together with like-minded individuals who share my passion to promote Britain in other countries and build relationships between the UK and the UAE.

“As a British Asian woman, I think it is vital that there is more multi-cultural understanding in business.  The BBG is open to any business which can demonstrate a link with the UK and I believe this helps members cross boundaries and nurture business relationships.”

The BBG remains committed to providing outstanding value for its membership, and this was emphasised by a new deal struck recently with one of the UAE’s leading companies to provide discounts and benefits for individual and company members.

All members now qualify for a ten per cent discount with every transaction at African & Eastern (A&E).  In addition, A&E will provide seasonal offers to members as well as becoming the official Beverage supplier of all BBG events.

Mark Beer, Chairman and CEO of the BBG, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Eleena as a member of the BBG.  To announce our 1,000th member at our 20th Anniversary lunch, in the presence of Lord Digby Jones, was a proud moment.

“As the BBG continues to grow, we remain committed to providing value to our members.  The deal with A&E is further evidence of the hard work the committee has put in to making the BBG the most active business group in the Gulf region.”
