burjuman's annual pink walkathon set for october 26
Mall Invites Members of the Community to Support Breast Cancer Awareness and Patient Care
On Friday 26 October, BurJuman will continue to celebrate 10 years of the Safe & Sound Breast Cancer Awareness Programme by hosting the Pink Walkathon, a 3.6 kilometer charity walk, aimed at raising funds and awareness for the fight against Breast Cancer. Men, women and children of all ages and fitness levels are expected to take part in this initiative by sporting the Safe and Sound t-shirts and caps. Breast Cancer survivors will lead the walk as a statement of empowerment, treatment, success and hope.
BurJuman's Safe and Sound Campaign endeavors to educate women on early Breast Cancer detection and is aimed at women of all ages and ethnicities. It is designed to encourage women to carry out regular self-examinations and to have further tests and mammographies if necessary. All proceeds from this year’s Pink Walkathon will go towards raising awareness for breast cancer and patient care. Fund usage will be monitored by Red Crescent and Safe & Sound Steering Committee.
For a small fee, the walkathon participants can enjoy a delicious breakfast while being entertained by live jazz music. With fun for all the family, a group drumming session, which makes learning how to play the drums fun and easy, will start at 10am, and is free for all to join in. This will be hosted by Dubai Drums. Face painters, art and crafts, and balloon benders will also be present on the day, at no extra charge.
“We have organized the Pink Walkathon, now in its fourth year, in order to raise continued awareness in the local community and to generate funds to support awareness and education programmes, community outreach initiatives and patient care. By joining us in this walk, you will be helping in the fight against Breast Cancer, spreading the fundamental message of awareness and prevention," said Sabina Khandwani, head of PR and Marketing, BurJuman.
Registration desks will be open inside the mall on the morning of the 26th. By paying a fee of 50 AED per person, walkers will receive a Safe and Sound t-shirt and cap, and can walk on their own, with family, friends or in corporate groups.
