Carnival with Dixieland at Reef Mall
Reef Mall, a member of Dubai Shopping Malls Group (DSMG), hosted the first ‘Carnival with Dixieland’ show as part of DSS 2008 activities. The international group of 20 performers included musicians, jumpers, stilt walkers, and roller-skaters from Italy and Poland.
The musicians for the carnival played popular Dixieland music - a style of jazz which developed in New Orleans at the start of the 20th century. Dixieland jazz combines brass band marches and instruments such as the trumpet (or cornet), trombone, and clarinet, and these instruments were prominent in the carnival in Reef Mall. 
Families and children stopped to take photographs with the carnival troupe in the half-hour parade. Reef Mall will host the carnival till July 10 after which it moves to Mall of the Emirates on July 11 (7:30 – 8:30pm), and Mercato on July12 (6:30 – 7pm), (8 – 8:30pm).
