The White House declared that components of Libya's weapons of mass destruction programs had been flown to the United States, describing the move as "real progress" towards Tripoli's disarmament.

"While these shipments are only the beginning of the elimination of Libya's weapons, these shipments, as well as the close cooperation on the ground in Libya, reflect real progress," spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters.

McClellan said it was too early to discuss the lifting of US sanctions on Libya because "there is more to do."

The spokesman added an airplane carrying 25 tons of weapons program components had landed late Monday in the southern US state of Tennessee as part of US-British attempts to help Libya dismantle such programs. (Albawaba.com)
