Daesh militants killed 17 Iraqi soldiers and six allied Sunni militiamen in an attack in Iraq’s Anbar province, Iraqi military officials told the Associated Press Sunday.

The officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Daesh fighters used suicide bombs and mortar shells in the attack, which left chief of army operations, Maj-Gen Qassim al-Dulaimi, lightly wounded.

News of Sunday’s attack came just two days after up to 50 Iraqi soldiers were killed by Daesh in ambushes elsewhere in Anbar province, AP reported.
