Denmark's parliament passed on Tuesday a package of strict measures to deter refugees from seeking asylum in Denmark, including confiscating migrants' valuables to pay for their stay, Reuters reported.
The law was passed by an overwhelming majority, including with support from the main center-left opposition Social Democrats, as Danish politics have shifted to the right.
International human rights organizations have strongly condemned the bill, but Danish politicians have defended it, saying Danish citizens would be expected to sell their own valuables before receiving public welfare.
