DHL, Bahrain’s preferred express and logistics provider, this month shipped more than 1,000 back packs, donated by children at St. Christopher’s School, Bahrain, to Scotland where they will join a bigger Scottish International Relief shipment bound for Malawi.

Wendy Bataineh, Head Teacher of St. Christopher’s Junior School, initiated the goodwill project and commented, “We are so proud of the children who have been so keen to help, and are equally grateful to the parents who have helped make the appeal a success!”
Scottish International Relief launched the Back Pack Appeal last year in conjunction with Mary’s Meals (a Scottish charity). So far more than 16,000 back packs have reached children in Africa.

The back pack’s are filled with everything from exercise books, pencils and crayons to t-shirts, soap, towels and toothbrushes, and even balls for play-time.

A child from St. Christopher’s that donated a backpack was excited about being able to help, saying, “It was fun to buy things for children in Malawi. I hope I can go and visit them one day!”

The St. Christopher’s back pack campaign was partially inspired by the highly successful Eid Shoe Boxes appeal that DHL ran for children in Iraq three years ago.
