Five drug smugglers were hanged early Monday in a prison in Iran's holy Shiite Muslim city of Mashhad, the Keyhan afternoon newspaper reported.
"The smugglers had been arrested early this month in clashes with police which left seven traffickers dead, as they were carrying a 500-kilo morphine convoy from the northeastern Khorasan province," the paper said.
The Islamic revolutionary court in Mashhad sentenced them to death.
Last week, four Iranians were hanged for murder inside Tehran's Qasr prison. (Albawaba.com)
