As part of its continuous efforts to safeguard the local community from the dangers of narcotics and counterfeit, Dubai Customs foiled a bid to smuggle 39 capsules of heroin hidden inside a passenger’s guts. The Asian man was attempting to bring them into the country but had failed to do so thanks to the efforts exerted by Customs inspectors at the Dubai Int’l Airport Terminal (1).

Due to their skills in reading body-language, the inspectors were able to notice that the passenger’s tension was escalating as he approached the inspection point. At first, nothing was found while examining his luggage through the x-ray machine or the manual search. Afterwards, he was accompanied to the body scan machine which detected suspicious items inside his body. Eventually, 39 capsules of pure heroin weighing 572.4 g were found in his guts.

Inline with the ongoing coordination and cooperation between Dubai Customs and Dubai Police, a record against the suspect was issued and handed to the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police to complete the necessary legal action.

It is worth mentioning that Dubai Customs inspectors’ vigilance and alertness have enabled them to successfully render large numbers of smuggling attempts into complete fiascos. Dubai Customs provides its inspectors with top-quality trainings that enhance their skills and proficiencies including body language training, investigative skills training, and inspection training. The Department also makes sure that the equipment and machines used by its inspectors are up to date with the best technologies and are of the highest quality which further increases the inspectors’ competence and efficiency.
