Dubai Department of Finance Senior Management Conduct Specialized Public Financial Management Program

The Dubai Department of Finance is conducting an advanced specialist training program for its senior staff on May 26 – 29, to enhance the skills and knowledge of its managers in international best practice in government financial and budgetary management.

The course is taught by Mr. Richard F. Keevey, Director of the Policy Institute for the Region at Princeton University. Mr. Keevey was previously appointed by President Bill Clinton to serve as Chief Financial Officer for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development; he has also served as the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Financial Management; and the Budget Director and Comptroller for the State of New Jersey.

His Excellency Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of the Department of Finance, said, “DoF is currently implementing a range of major financial management reforms in the Dubai Government – developing fiscal strategy for Dubai, adopting program-based performance budgeting, and transitioning to accrual accounting across government entities. The reforms are designed to improve the quality of financial reporting and increase budgetary discipline in the government.” He added that a good understanding of how different parts of the finance system interact would help create effective fiscal operation rooted in accountability, transparency, and strong performance management.

DoF worked with MindSight, Executive Education & Consultancy in designing the specialized tailor-made training program. MindSight draws on the world’s top minds – from globally renowned policy and business schools including Princeton, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Wharton, Columbia and Yale – to provide world class training for the region’s current and future leaders.
