Dubai eGovernment, a pioneering initiative in the region to provide online services, in cooperation with Microsoft, has announced that it has recently honoured the second group of graduates of the Ta'aheel Project, the training program on IT applications that is part of the rehabilitation process for prisoners at the Dubai Central Prison.
The training program, which is being implemented in coordination with the Dubai Police, includes training sessions on the basics of Windows Operating System, MS word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Access. The Project is designed to help prisoners receive the benefits of technical skills and to facilitate their future integration into society.
"The program reflects our commitment to bridge the digital gap among various sectors to enable the greatest possible number of people to benefit from the modern IT systems and programs," said Salem Al Shair, eServices Director, Dubai eGovernment. “We are not just about IT either, but are community focused and as part of our social commitment would like to ensure that prisoners who are released can be absorbed smoothly into today’s technology driven society.”
Dr. Zaki Khoury, Gulf Citizenship Lead, Microsoft Corporation, added, "At Microsoft, we know that amazing things happen when people have access to the right resources, as we have seen when we have worked with unprivileged children and other communities. Our goal is to empower people by making sure they have the tools, skills and resources to overcome not only today’s challenges, but also those that will arise in the future, and the Ta'aheel Project is part of our larger efforts toward this goal".
Dubai eGovernment is a pioneering initiative aimed at creating a centralized technology infrastructure, and is an important asset towards turning Dubai into a digital society model by providing the majority of government services electronically. Currently, all the government departments of Dubai are making efforts to provide their online services via Dubai eGovernment portal (www.dubai.ae).
