Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has announced that it has achieved recertification of ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management. The Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) recently completed the assessment, upon which they formally recommended PCFC for ISO 14001 recertification as per the revised standards of 2004.
ISO 14001 is a management system that empowers an organization to address the impact of its activities on the environment, and to take steps to identify significant aspects and implement environmental management programmes to control and improve them.
“We consider the ISO 14001 recertification as a recognition of our sustained efforts to preserve the environment and ensure the safety and health of employees as well as customers. PCFC has implemented a documented environmental management programme that ensures compliance with the most demanding regulations. The accreditation reaffirms our commitment to due diligence and efficient environmental management,” said Ahmed Abdul Hussain, Group Executive Director of the Environment, Health, Safety and Security Division of PCFC and Nakheel.
“PCFC is focused on continual improvement of all environment-related processes, and views environmental protection as an essential organizational responsibility. We have been making concerted efforts towards fostering a green culture, and have adopted a series of measures to minimize the environmental impact of our operations,” Hussain added.
The comprehensive LRQA assessment covered all operational areas of PCFC at Port Rashid and Jebel Ali, including management policy, objectives, programs, internal audits, incidents, corrective actions, legal requirements, monitoring, management review, annual inspections, workshops, emergency preparedness and waste management.
