Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the region’s premier event organiser and operator of the largest exhibition venue in the Middle East, won two of the most coveted travel, tourism and hospitality industry honours at last night’s 2010 Middle East World Travel Awards. Beating a number of renowned competitors in the region, DWTC made a strong show of force by scooping the title of the Middle East’s Leading Exhibition Centre and Leading Meetings and Conference Centre -- the fourth consecutive year that DWTC has won the leading conference centre in the Middle East.

Celebrating and recognising the best in the travel, tourism and hospitality business for the last 17 years, the World Travel Awards is one of the most sought after recognitions in the industry. With votes cast by travel professional elites from across the globe, tribute was again paid to DWTC for the pivotal role it has played in stimulating opportunities that drive long term economic growth to the Middle East as well as its significant contribution to the regional MICE sector.

Helal Saeed Almarri, CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre said: “Winning these coveted awards is an incredible achievement for DWTC and highlights Dubai’s position as a pioneering hub for business in the region. We have earned an international reputation for hosting some of the world’s best events featuring elite decision makers from across the globe. We are keen to further enable sustained development of the region and the MICE sector in the emirate by continuing to attract leading exhibitions and conferences from around the world.”

Building on an exceptional performance in 2009 that saw a twelve percent increase in visitor numbers to exhibitions, conferences and events across its venues despite global economic uncertainties, DWTC’s growing status as the region’s platform for world class business and networking events is further validated through the breadth and scale of events and exhibitions taking place this year. This week, DWTC plays host to the foremost travel exhibition, Arabian Travel Market (ATM) that began on Tuesday and concludes Friday. With thousands of exhibitors from over 60 countries including many new-to-market representatives participating, this year’s ATM is on track to beat 2009 impressive performance which saw a 6.5 per cent increase in visitor traffic.

DWTC continues to support the growth of the events sector throughout the region by providing infrastructure to meet the growing demand. With the recent completion of their new Sheikh Saeed Halls and the region’s largest indoor Arena, DWTC now provides 1,000,000 square feet of covered exhibition space cementing its position as the largest venue in the Middle East.

Following its strong performance in 2009, DWTC will continue to work towards sustaining and growing its current 1-1.5% contribution to Dubai’s GDP.
