Another earthquake, this time on a scale of 5.7 degrees on the richter scale in the north of the country, hit Algeia Wednesday afternoon. Fifteen people were injured according to the Algerian National Radio which quoted the Algerian Center for Research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics.
The epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 5 km to the north of the Boumerdès region which is about 50 km to the east of the capital Algiers. Earthquakes a fairly regular occurrence in Alergia but rarely inflict much damage. In May of last year, however, a particularly strong earthquake on a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter Scale killed 2,300 and injured another 11,000.
Experts say that the earthquake Wednesday evening is related to the devastating earthquake of last year.
