The pilot of a private passenger plane parked at Cairo’s international airport first fought with, then kicked out, a stand-by pilot before taking off alone at the controls on Sunday.

The brawl took place in front of 130 foreign passengers just a few moments before the plane was to take off.

Witnesses said the stand-by pilot asked his colleague about the flight plan, but was rebuffed. A half-hour confrontation followed, after which the captain pushed out the stand-by pilot and took off alone, violating civil aviation regulations.

A local press report said the plane was heading from Cairo to the Egyptian resort of Sharm Al Sheikh, and then to Milan.

The daily added that the airline contacted Egyptian officials at Sharm Al Sheikh airport to order the captain to land and submit to questioning, saying they would send a new crew to proceed with the flight as scheduled - Albawaba.com
