Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak on Monday turned 82. Egyptian sources conveyed that no celebration is expected to mark his birthday due to the tough economic situation. Mubarak has become president on 6 October 1981 following the assassination of Anwar Sadat during a military parade in Cairo.

According to presidential sources, no political meetings are on the agenda of Mubarak during the day. However, they added that in the few next days, the president has a busy schedule of political agenda, which includes discussions on the swine flu crisis and the global financial crisis.

Later this month, the veteran Egyptian leader is expected to host Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Sharm a-Shiekh. At the end of May, Mubarak will travel for talks at the White House with President Obama.
