The Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) hosted participants of the Watani Summer Camp programme 2010. The visit is part of a series of activities being held until July 8, 2010 in participation with Watani to promote stronger interest in the young minds about the country’s scientific accomplishments.

It also highlights EIAST’s commitment to enhance the spirit of innovation and creativity in children. EIAST provided the young participants with insights on space tours and the scientific aspects involved.

“The co-operation between EIAST and Watani shows our commitment to provide children with an enjoyable and educational experience. We work towards supporting scientific innovation and technical development in our youngsters that complements the Vision 2021 to make the UAE among the best nations in the world by year 2021,” said Engineer Adnan Mohammed Al Rais, Team Leader – Ground Systems and Image Processing.

“It is important for children to understand more about the technology related to the space industry, and to become aware of the UAE’s achievements, which is reflected in the successful launch of DubaiSat-1, the first remote sensing satellite owned by the UAE. It will be a catalyst for UAE children to pursue education in advanced technology for the overall welfare of the nation,” added Adnan.

During the visit, the children participated in contacting DubaiSat -1 to identify how it works, and the equipment used to operate, control and place it in the proper orbit.
