The Higher Shiite Islamic Council announced Tuesday as the first day of Eid-al-Fitr for Shiites.
However, the Sunni Dar al-Fatwa and the office of late Shiite Preacher Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah announced that Eid- al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, fell Monday.
Sunni and Shiite authorities often differ on the timing of Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan’s fasting.
