Iraqi police said Tuesday armed men have killed eight security guards during a break-in at a bank in central Baghdad. According to the AP, two police officials conveyed the attackers stormed into the Rafidain Bank in Karradah district early Tuesday morning, killing the guards and escaping with a large amount of cash.
This incident reported as U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates arrived in southern Iraq. Gates flew from Amman, Jordan, to a command post in southern Iraq where American forces are serving mainly as advisers to Iraqi forces.
While in Iraq, Gates is due to meet with political leaders, including Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Gates is also set to visit Iraq's Kurdish region.
