Kuwaitis were voting on Saturday in the country's second general election in a year amid expectations of a low turnout. The vote to elect 50 MPs is being held after the country's leader Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah dissolved the 10-month-old parliament in March, following ongoing crisis between the government and lawmakers.
210 hopefuls are standing for the 50-seat parliament, AFP reported.
The candidates include 16 women -- down from 27 in each of the past two elections. Women are standing and voting in the emirate for only the third time.
Voting is scheduled to close at 8 pm (1700 GMT) at the 94 polling stations, with the first results expected early on Sunday.
