Hon. Dato’ Prof. Dr. Hassan Bin Said, Director General, Dept. of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia opened the Exhibition and Seminar of Malaysia Higher Education today (October 28, 2007) at the Sheraton Creek Hotel, Dubai. The event, which is being organized by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia and the Malaysia Education Promotion Center (MEPC), has drawn participation from more than 14 leading Malaysian universities, along with educational experts from the region. The event aims at highlighting and featuring the extensive academic programs available in the country for Middle East students.
At present, Malaysia boasts of 40 private and public universities, 500 private colleges, four branch campuses of foreign universities and one international university offering a wide array of programs, ranging from engineering, medicine, business and finance to information technology, hospitality and social sciences. As one of the top destinations for academic excellence, Malaysia has been providing top-notch academic programs to a number of international students from all over the world. In an effort to increase the number of foreign enrolees, the event is set to create an impact on the benefits of the Private Higher Educational Institutions (PHEIs) and to highlight the diversified alternatives presented to students from all over the world in Malaysia.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Dato’ Prof. Dr. Hassan Bin Said said: “Malaysia has established a solid reputation as a premier destination catering to a diverse international student community. As a part of the numerous initiatives we have implemented to improve our current standing, we aim to communicate to students from the Middle East the vast range of educational opportunities in the country. Through this seminar, we are expecting to increase awareness on the educational opportunities in Malaysia and highlight the cost effective but high quality academic programs and specialized skill courses available.”
The event is set to feature prominent members of the academe to discuss the excellent educational system in Malaysia and share their own experiences in their academic pursuit in the country. Some of the invited guests who will speak at the seminar include Hon. Dato’ Prof. Dr. Hassan bin Said who will discuss the ‘Achievements and Opportunities of Higher Education in Malaysia’; and Prof. Dr. Dawood Abdulmalek from the University of Science and Technology, Sanaa, Yemen who will talk about ‘Collaboration with Malaysia Higher Education Institutions’. A forum will follow the keynote addresses, which will further tackle the education system in Malaysia.
“The credibility of the speakers is a testament to the high quality of education available in Malaysia, combined with the fact that reputed universities from around the globe have located their campuses in the country. We are optimistic that this event will present the country as a highly-regarded educational destination, in addition to being considered as a prime tourist destination,” concluded Bin Said.
