ALBAWABA - An explosion rocked the United Nations headquarters located in Naqoura, near the Lebanon-Israel border, as rocket attacks intensified from Lebanese territory towards northern Israel.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) promptly confirmed that a rocket had struck the UN headquarters. The incident has prompted an ongoing investigation into the rocket's source and origin.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported from the fallen rocket, and authorities on both sides of the blue line, which demarcates the Lebanon-Israel border, have initiated communication.
UNIFIL's official statement urged all relevant parties to prioritize a ceasefire and provide an opportunity for peacekeeping personnel to mediate a solution. It stressed that nobody wishes to witness more injuries or loss of life and reminded all concerned parties that attacks on civilians or UN personnel could potentially constitute violations of international law, tantamount to war crimes.
This incident occurred within the context of escalating border tensions. Recent reports indicate that Lebanon launched a barrage of 20 rockets, targeting the city of Nahariya in northern Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responded by confirming that 9 rockets were fired from Lebanese territory into Israel, with IDF successfully neutralizing 5 of them and the remaining 4 landing in uninhabited areas. This incident marks another concerning development in an already volatile region.
