Algeria's national football team coach, Ali Fergani, submitted his resignation following his failure to lead his team for next year's African Nations Cup finals and the 2006 World Cup.
In September 2004, Fergani was appointed for a third term as Algeria's national coach, replacing Belgian Robert Waseige. The Belgian was sacked after a humiliating 3-0 home defeat by Gabon in a World Cup qualifier.
Fergani, a 53-year-old former Algerian international, was national coach between 1989-1992 and 1995-1996, official news agency APS said. His current contract was to run until June 2006.
