U.S. warplanes, artillery and mortars attacked targets across Fallujah on Monday after after US forces claimed to take almost total control of the city in a battle that killed at least 38 US soldiers. The bodies of Saudi, Jordanian and Palestinian nationals have been recovered during the fighting, CNN reported Monday.
The U.S. military, however, reported that scattered spots of resistance remain, mainly in southern parts of the city.
"Iraqi forces and Multi-National Force-Iraq have wrested most of Fallujah from insurgent control, but operations are not over," the US military said in a statement, cited by AFP.
Meanwhile, skirmishes broke out in the city of Ramadi, 50 kilometres west of Fallujah, where six Iraqis were killed and five injured Sunday. (albawaba.com)
