A fire broke out in an Iranian prison Monday, killing 27 people and injuring 50, officials said.
IRNA quoted the head of the prison, Abbas Ali Arab, as saying that the fire broke out inside a prison in Gorgan, capital of northern Golestan province on the Caspian sea. "Unfortunately, 27 of the prisoners lost their lives and about 50 others were injured in the event," he said.
Arab announced the names of the victims, aged between 20 and 69, who were convicted by local courts. Those injured were taken to several hospitals of the Golestan province, he said. "Initial investigations indicate that the incident was caused by an electrical fault," Arab said. (Albawaba.com)
