Former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis has pleaded guilty in the Georgia election subversion case.
Ellis admitted to aiding and abetting false statements related to election lies propagated in December 2020. She received five years of probation and a $5,000 restitution order. In court, she expressed deep remorse for her involvement in attempts to overturn the 2020 election, stating she would have declined representing Trump if she "knew then what she knows now."
This marks the third guilty plea in this case within a week, following Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro. All three have agreed to testify for the prosecution in upcoming trials, potentially providing insight into the events of 2020. Ellis' plea also implicates Rudy Giuliani in a state crime, involving false voter-fraud claims made to Georgia legislators. Giuliani has denied any wrongdoing.
In exchange for her cooperation, prosecutors dropped two original charges against Ellis, including a violation of Georgia's racketeering law. This plea deal also prohibits Ellis from discussing the case on social media while proceedings are underway. In unrelated proceedings in Colorado, Ellis admitted to making false public statements post-election, resulting in a censure and a $224 fine.
Ellis has distanced herself from Trump's circle in recent months and publicly supported Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Republican presidential primary. She previously raised over $216,000 through an online crowdfunding platform after complaining about a lack of financial support from pro-Trump groups following her indictment.
