Four Egyptians who were detained by the US authorities in the wake of September 11 terrorist attacks on Washington and New York arrived in Cairo Wednesday. The Egyptian nationals were arrested during a massive campaign launched against suspects in the airborne suicide attacks, but were freed after interrogation.

The freed Egyptians returned home from New York on board the EgyptAir flight, which also carried the Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher on his way home from his latest visit to the US.

Maher confirmed that the reason behind the release of these citizens was the ongoing big efforts, which Egypt made to resolve the problem of its detained nationals in the US.

According to the Washington Post, there are now more than 1200 people, mostly Arabs and Muslim in US custody for links with the terror assaults -- Albawaba.com
