Four Libyan troops were killed and six others wounded in fresh clashes with militants in the Libyan city of Benghazi Sunday, Reuters reports.

Fighters loyal to the country’s official government have been involved in a military campaign against Islamist groups in Libya’s second largest city since last year.

A tank battled militants who have attempted to advance in Benghazi over the weekend, officials told Reuters.

The Libyan army backed by local armed residents managed to regain some parts of the city but lack of adequate military equipment has reduced chances of overthrowing the Islamists.

Daesh extremists have exploited the conflict in Libya by executing civilians and raiding towns in recent months.
