ALBAWABA- Four U.S. Army soldiers have gone missing during a scheduled tactical training exercise in Lithuania, according to the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius. U.S. and Lithuanian military forces have launched search operations to locate them.
The soldiers were last seen at the General Silvestras Žukauskas training ground in Pabradė, a town less than 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the Belarusian border.
Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reported that both the soldiers and their vehicle were reported missing on Tuesday afternoon.
A statement from U.S. Army Europe and Africa public affairs in Wiesbaden, Germany, confirmed the disappearance, adding that further details would be provided as they become available.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia—NATO member states—maintaining strained relations with Russia, a close ally of Belarus.
Lithuania has been one of the most vocal supporters of Ukraine in its fight against Russian forces following Moscow’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
