GAC Bahrain, part of the GAC Group, a global shipping, logistics and marine services provider, today celebrates 50 years in the Kingdom of Bahrain with the inauguration of its new GAC Logistics Centre in Muharraq. The inauguration ceremony is officiated by Dr Esam Fakhro, Group Chairman of Abdulla Yousif Fakhro & Sons BSC(c) and Chairman Bahrain Chamber of Commerce & Industry together with Mr Bjorn Engblom, GAC Group Executive Chairman.
The company was founded in 1957 by the late Ahmad and Abdulla Yousif Fakhro together with the late Bengt Lindwall, founder of the GAC Group from Sweden. The Partnership in Bahrain was this year transferred to Abdulla Yousif Fakhro & Sons BSC(c).
Multi-modal services under one roof
The all-in-one facility is the first of its kind in Bahrain, where multi-modal services – road, sea and air services – are offered under one roof. Not only does the logistics centre offer dedicated customs on site 24/7 for prompt cargo clearance, it also provides bonded facilities for combined air / sea / road operation.
Ideally situated near the airport, the facility also houses a state-of-the-art warehousing and distribution centre equipped with laser controlled automatic sprinkler system and insulation of both walls and roof; temperature controlled area for sensitive cargo; large handling area as well as office accommodation.
Setting new standards in logistics services
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr Adel Fakhro, GAC Bahrain Company Chairman says: “We are happy to mark our 50th Anniversary with this new milestone which continues to put GAC Bahrain at the forefront of industry developments in the Kingdom.”
Aptly describing the concept as “cargo made easy” for customers, Managing Director Captain Peter Gronberg explains that driving customers’ value chain is the main objective behind the investment in the GAC Logistics Centre.
“Using a common consolidation centre for all transport modes under one roof enables us to offer customers tailor-made end-to-end supply chain solutions with the convenience of a single invoice. Customers benefit from significant improvements in time and cost efficiency from streamlined services and processes.”
To complement the services at the new GAC Logistics centre in Bahrain, the company is already to making plans to build additional facilities for local storage and distribution. As Bahrain continues to gain prominence as a re-distribution hub backed by key infrastructure projects, Capt Gronberg is confident that with infrastructure, systems and people in place, GAC is well-positioned to serve the present and future logistics needs of customers.
The ceremony is attended by distinguished Directors of the company: Dr. Yousif Abdulla Fakhro, Mohammed Adel Fakhro, Lars Safverstrom, Bengt Ekstrand and GAC Bahrain Managers & staff.
