In the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, and under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al-Missned, Consort of the Emir and Chairman of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Al Jazeera Children’s Channel was officially launched on Friday 9th September, in a gala dinner held at its headquarters in the Education City in Doha, Qatar.
A number of local, regional and international dignitaries, government officials, ministers, ambassadors, celebrities and members of the local and international media were in attendance. As well as twenty two Arabic children invited by the channel to represent their countries.
Inaugurated by verses from the holy Quran, the ceremony proceeded with an opening speech by Mr. Mahmoud Bouneb, the Executive General Manager of Al Jazeera Children’s Channel and was followed by a laser show and multimedia presentation summarizing highlights from the channel’s programmes. Afterwards, Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned addressed the guests before initiating a final ten second countdown along with the children.
Al Jazeera Children’s Channel provides Arab youngsters and their families around the globe, with a reliable unbiased source of entertainment, as well as enhances their knowledge and skills.
Al Jazeera Children’s Channel broadcasts up to six fresh hours of eighteen hours and a half per day on weekdays, and seven fresh hours out of nineteen hours and a half per day on weekends.
Over 40 per cent of the Channel’s programmes are internally produced; one of the highest ratio of any children’s channel worldwide. JCC is a free-to-air channel on Arabsat, Nilesat and Hotbird satellites.
Through the concept of “Edutainment”, JCC opens up avenues for the Arab Children to learn about different environments and cultures. It also helps them develop positive self-esteem, respect their traditions and values, appreciate people around them and develop a passion for learning.
