Deputy City Manager of Public Works, Eng. Fawzi Mas'ad, emphasized that GAM cancelled on Saturday 21 August 2010, the detour passing through Al Abdali Project and opened the way before the vehicles coming from 4th Circle towards Al Abdali region through finishing works of the Bridge and parallel to the progress of Al Shmeisani Intersection Project.
He clarified that cancelling the detour and the completion of the finishing works enables the works on the other part of the lower bridge's walls and columns towards Suleiman Al Nabulsi Street which was closed because of the detour.
Shmeisani Intersection includes 4 levels (tunnel, circle, upper and lower bridges), and it is expected to reduce and contain the traffic jams caused by the architectural development in the area.
According to Mas'ad, GAM is currently working on the construction of the two bridges (upper and lower) of Al Shmeisani intersection project.
The first bridge on Suleiman Al Nabulsi Street has two lanes per each way with a length of 300 m, while the second extends from the 4th Circle to Jamal Abdul Nasser Junction (Ministry of Interior), through Queen Nour Street with 420 m length and two lanes for each direction; it branches off in two bridges, one is 200m long and leads to Abdali development project, the other, is also 200 m long, parallel to the main bridge (leading to Ministry of Interior junction) and ends at Jerusalem College entrance.
From his end, Eng. Mas'ad declared that GAM will remove the debris and soils resulting from removing the acquired houses in Al Qaisiyeh neighborhood in Wadi Abdoun, immediately after Eid Al Fitr.
He stated that GAM recently requested two tenders for this purpose, to be opened and consequently executed after the Eid.
GAM will also execute a main roads network, namely, Al Setteen Street which is to be opened with full capacity at about 5,5 km of length; it starts from Al Qaisiyeh Circle and ends at a conjunction between the 7th Circle and 8th Circle on the Airport Road before the Arab Bank building.
It is expected that within few months, some parts situated between Prince Hashem Intersection and Al Qaisiyeh Circle are to be implemented, especially that this particular part is currently undergoing the final design phase, as well as completing the part connecting Airport Road with Prince Hashem Intersection by the end of this year, coinciding with the completion of Prince Hussein Ibn Abdullah II Square and the surrounding roads network.
Al Setteen Street will hopefully minimize pressure on the Streets: Zahran, Prince Ali Ibn Al Hussein, and Queen Zain AL Sharaf. It will also play a main role in reducing the time needed to reach the south of the Kingdom for people driving from the city center.
