Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) attributed closing Friday public market to architectural organization and planning reasons, to comply with the health conditions, and to remove all traffic impediments.
Director of Markets Department at GAM, Engineer Ahmad Muheirat, declared that GAM will start receiving the new applications filed by the citizens who want to own their own points of sale as of Saturday at the markets Department.
Muheirat pointed out that GAM set up some rules and regulations governing eligibility for such ownership which observe security and social control, along with creating new job opportunities, thus helping in the elimination of unemployment and poverty rates.
He also said that GAM will issue interim licenses for the participants, that obligate the license holder demonstrate it during the working hours, subject to confiscation in case of violating any of the conditions; those licenses are not to be leased or sub-let to another party even if that party holds a national number.
Director of the Media Center of GAM, Mazen Farajeen, clarified that GAM aims from implementing public markets at providing products and services, organizing the work of the markets to avoid random trading, preserving the public cleanliness, and removing the hindrances on the roads. To achieve such a goal, he explained that GAM decided to gather the street vendors in specific locations to display competitive products that enable citizens get their needs easily.
